Best in brass, great gospel and a firework finale as Todmorden welcomes the Tour De France to Yorkshire

Hundreds of people braved the midges to celebrate the coming of the Tour De France to Yorkshire and enjoy a Party In The Park in Todmorden - with a fireworks finale.

They brought their picnics to Centre Vale Park, Burnley Road, for a concert which featured two sets from Todmorden Community Band and, in the middle, a powerful performance by the Three Valleys Gospel Choir.

The climax of the event, as dusk fell, was an enthralling fireworks display.

The free event was organised by Tour De Tod with Todmorden Lions, and was a super hors’ d’ouvres to tomorrow’s events when the Tour comes to the Calder Valley, passing through part of Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd before riders tackle the longest continuous ascent in England up through Cragg Vale.

All weekend there has been a Two Counties Market at Todmorden Market, and on Sunday, July 6, from 9am, a giant 16 metres screen will be showing the Tour, with, later in the afternoon, the Disney film Frozen.

Pam Warhurst of Tour De Tod hopes as many people as possible would come along on Sunday and enjoy the day.
