Bike race back in Brighouse

Brighouse is gearing up for a night of high speed racing and entertainment as one of the town’s most popular events makes its return.

After a two year absence, the VS Cycles Brighouse Circuit Race is making its comeback on Tuesday, June 26. The course will be the same as the events held between 2007 and 2009 with the first race starting at 7pm.

Michael Lever from the race organising team said: “We are extremely proud to be able to bring the first round of the 2012 Men’s Elite Circuit Race Series to Brighouse with the support of our main sponsors Websters Insurance Brokers. We have been off the calendar for two years but knowing how tough the circuit is and how much the riders and teams have enjoyed it in the past we just had to get it back on.

“We have great support and the circuit is ideal for spectators We can’t wait to see all the riders, teams and a huge crowd of supporters back in Brighouse.”

The start/finish line will be at The George on Commercial Street where cyclists can reach speeds up to 40mph as they race along Commercial Street, on to King Street before sweeping into Lawson Road, down Bethel Street and Thornton Square.

A total of three races will take place with the youth race beginning at 7pm before the regional cyclists scheduled at 7.35pm and the elite race, featuring some of the country’s best, at 8.20pm.

Eurosport commentator Mike Smith will be returning to conduct the proceedings and announce the winners of the races.

Nine of the UK’s top teams will be racing with a field of 68 riders for the main event, over 40 for the support race and 30 in the youth race including seven from the VS Cycles team.
