Biker breaks both arms in crash

A mountain biker fell and broke both his arms whilst riding the downhill MTB course near Todmorden.

The Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team were alerted to an incident on Sunday at 5.22pm.

Once on-scene, team members joined the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Rapid Response paramedic and ambulance crew to treat the casualty and bring his pain under control, before packaging him in the vacuum mattress and evacuating a short distance from the woodland location to the ambulance.

Early indication was the rider had broken both arms in the fall and was treated accordingly.

The resuce took two hours to complete.
