Body found in River Aire

Police searching the River Aire in Leeds city centre have recovered the body of a man.

Emergency services attended the stretch of the river around Bridge End at about 8am this morning following reports of a man in the water.

Police divers found the body at noon.

The Leeds Coroner’s Office has been informed and enquiries are ongoing to establish the man’s identity.

Detective Inspector Marc Bowes said: “At this stage the incident is being treated as an unexplained sudden death.”
