Body found in search for former Halifax man

Police in Scarborough looking for a former Halifax man have recovered a body near the village of Staxton.

They received a call from a member of the public on Friday at 12.26pm after they found the man in Staxton Woods.

Although the man is yet to be formally identified, the family of missing Cayton man Alan Wilkinson have been informed.

A post mortem is due to be carried out to determine the cause of the man’s death and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner.

Mr Wilkinson, 65, has been missing since December 8 disappeared from his home just days after celebrating his 44th wedding anniversary.

The search for Mr Wilkinson has had North Yorkshire Police, Scarborough Search and Rescue and RAF Leeming all out looking for him.
