Bouncing back to open new furniture store in Calderdale

Beverley Langley worked at Russell Dean Furniture in Mytholmroyd for four years when it flooded on Boxing Day in 2016.

IN PICTURES: How Horton House and Westgate Arcade will be transformedShe worked at the shop for 18 months after the devastating floods and sold clearance furniture as the business tried to get back on its feet.

The 48-year-old said: “I was made redundant last year. I was offered a position in Leeds but I live in Mytholmroyd with two kids and wanted to stay local.

“But I was unable to get a job locally.”

After months of applying for thousands of jobs and being unsuccessful, Beverley decided to set up her own business. With money she had saved for a loft conversion as well as help from family and friends she started Be Valley Furniture.

The premises was once home to Calder Valley Motors and had been unused and roofless for years.

Read: Send us your football team photos“With hard work we transformed it into a furniture store and opened on Good Friday,” said Beverley. “We put a roof on, got dehumidifiers to dry it out, and painted and papered it.”

The shop is open six days a week and sells a range of items at a discounted rate.

Beverley said: “It feels lovely and nice to offer immediate delivery. I managed to get some good deals and I’m able to offer those same low prices to my customers. I’m looking forward to getting known a bit better because although I’m in the centre of Mytholmroyd I’m just a bit set back. Hopefully I’ll start employing people to give someone like me a chance.”

Beverley’s passion lies in interior design. She completed a course on the subject at Calderdale College before getting a job at Russell Dean and won the award for Adult Learner of the Year.

She said: I wanted my kids to be proud of me and to show them that whatever happens you can deal with it if you work hard.”
