Brenda’s a real show-stopper

AN amateur stage show came to an abrupt halt when a member of the cast collapsed, fell down a flight of stars and had to be rushed to hospital.

The incident took place just before the interval in the Mytholmroyd St Michael’s Amateur’s production of “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.”

Brenda Birtwhistle, had been frozen to the spot for some time in her role as a statue when she suddenly toppled over.

The audience and cast members were stunned and the curtain was quickly drawn.

But paramedics were soon in attendance and she was taken to the Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Mrs Birtwhistle was kept in overnight for treatment and then allowed home.

A member of the cast said the noise of her falling caused considerable alarm and the show was delayed by nearly an hour.

Performances are due to take place this afternoon and tonight.
