“To see so many people line the streets and join in the celebrations as the cyclists raced through West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and South Yorkshire was incredible.

“The partnership working that went in to making this happen, from Welcome to Yorkshire, local councils, including Leeds, Wakefield, Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford, the volunteers and the many, many organisations and emergency services, including West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, Ambulance Service and Mountain rescue, was second to none.

“Last but not least thanks must go to West Yorkshire Police, staff and volunteers and all their counterparts in North and South Yorkshire for ensuring this event was policed effectively and went safely without little incident. We have a great police service, and the interaction with the crowds through the many pictures on twitter (using #TDFPolicingPics) was great to see.

“Now I will look to be working with partners and West Yorkshire Police to help create a lasting legacy following on from this huge success, to ensure our roads are safer, so more and more people can carry a lasting memory of this special weekend, by getting out on their bikes, or using the roads across the county without fear of injury.

“Local solutions for local road safety issues can be addressed effectively, to ensure communities feel safe because we only need to look to this Tour de Yorkshire weekend to see what partnership working has achieved for the years to come.”
