Foundry and dental supplies company John Winter & Co can reflect on another successful year after increasing turnover and creating more jobs in the area.
The firm was recently shortlisted for the Business of the Year at the Halifax Courier Business Awards and won a Shooting Stars award courtesy of Huddersfield Town Football Club.
Since it was founded in 1963 to supply consumable products to the foundry industry, John Winter has diversified to supply around 80 per cent of the 2,000 dental laboratories in the UK.
Foundry products sales director Adam Bennett, who has worked for the company for almost 17 years, said: “On the foundry side of the business we started to expand internationally about 12 years ago.
“Now we supply to over 40 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Northern and Central America.
“Since the last recession we’ve increased our sales by a third and our exports have trebled.
“We’ve also diversified our business, going into the dental industry, which now represents a third of our turnover.
“Overall we’ve got circa 2,500 customers globally and employ over 40 staff.
“We took on four new staff this year when we expanded our sales and production teams and we’re about to undertake further investment in our manufacturing side will almost certainly take on further new staff next year.”
The company is set for another landmark year in 2015.
Adam added: “Next year is the equivalent of our World Cup year.
“The most important foundry industry event, GIFA, takes place in Dusseldorf every four years in June and we’re going to exhibit there for the first time.
“We’ve developed an innovative, environmentally-friendly product for the foundry industry and 10 of us are going over there from the company, including myself, to launch it.
“Also next year, the dental sales team will also attend the IDS Exhibition, the largest event in the dental industry calendar in Cologne in March.”
