Halifax Volkswagen has expanded its apprenticeship programme onto the sales floor.
It is one of dozens of dealerships across the country to benefit from the “product advisor” scheme rolled out by VW.
Ben Smith, 18, is now learning about the brand and products before becoming a sales advisor.
His boss, Gavin Hogg, said Ben had brought new ideas and had boosted the dealership through the use of social media.
“We are developing him before he goes onto the sales floor and he is meeting and greeting customers and learning about VW products,” said Mr Hogg.
Ben said it was a unique role and he was grateful for the opportunity.
He is looking forward to gathering information from all operations within the dealership before moving into sales.
“I’m like a blank canvas being trained for the business needs and this is my dream apprenticeship,” he said.
“Initially my role is to meet and greet people, ease them into the sales process and make them feel comfortable.”
Ben will shortly meet with 40 other product advisors for a training course in Milton Keynes.
He initially read about the apprenticeship scheme online and saw an opportunity advertised in Bristol.
He wanted to work closer home so called into the Halifax dealership based at Shelf and his Mr Hogg said his tenancity was a factor in him being successful.
