GORDON Mitchell has been named as Calderdale Council’s interim chief executive, subject to approval at the council meeting on Wednesday.

He will replace Owen Williams who, after six years in Calderdale, has been appointed chief executive of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Mitchell is a former head of Nottingham and Bracknell Councils, and currently works with the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives.

Council leader Janet Battye said: “Gordon has an impressive range of skills and I am pleased to recommend his appointment.” Deputy leader Tim Swift said the council faced challenging times.
