ELLAND is set to lose one of its high street banks.
The NatWest branch in Southgate, pictured, will close its doors for the final time on March 12 in a money-saving move.
Online banking and an increasing reliance on cash machines means the branch no longer gets the use it once did.
A spokeperson for NatWest said: “The NatWest sub branch at Elland will close on March 12.
“Closing a branch is not a decision we take lightly. However customers do not use the branch as much as they used to and demand no longer justifies keeping it open.
“Many customers are now choosing alternative ways of banking, such as 24-hour online and telephone services and our smartphone banking app.
“For those customers who prefer a branch banking service, our branches at Halifax, Huddersfield and Brighouse are all within three to four miles, with Halifax and Huddersfield open until 6pm weekdays and until 4pm on Saturdays.
“Customers can also access their money at the post office in Elland or any other post office branch, as well as at another 50 ATMs within two and a half miles.
“No job losses will result from this sub branch closure and our staff at Elland will continue to work locally.”
Elland will still have four other banks after the closure.
