A new Taekwondo club in Halifax is aiming to put some fighting spirit into the people of Calderdale.

Chris Cocker is opening Focus Taekwondo on April 2 at the Mixenden Activity Centre and will initially run classes for people aged four upwards on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Chris, 26, is a full-time coach and has a degree in sports coaching from Leeds Beckett University and a level two coaching certificate from British Taekwondo.

He is also an international competitor who is currently ranked third in England and has represented his country.

He recently fought in the Dutch Open, a major European competition full of the world’s best competitors.

There will also be two other coaches at the club.

Chris said: “There is not many activities in Mixenden and no martial arts at all, I think it would be great for the community, especially as it is always seen as a less fortunate area.

“My aim is to produce a high standard of taekwondo with students becoming respectable black belts and respectable people,

“I also aim to produce a competitive and well respected fight team with the main aim of getting competitors to the full time National Olympic Academy.”
