Holdsworth House in Halifax has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2015 prestigious Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards in the Large Hotel of the Year category.
Despite being the smallest hotel of the finalists, independently owned Holdsworth House is standing shoulder to shoulder with the county’s top hotels including Gisborough Hall, which has the mighty brand backing of Macdonald Hotels behind it.
Co-owner Gail Moss, who grew up in the manor, said: “As a privately-owned hotel we don’t have the brand power of a large chain but we are in charge of our own destiny and can offer the guest flexibility and individuality.
“There’s nowhere that can compete with our unique character, history and setting, and I believe we offer the very best service and two rosette awarded food.
“My family has owned Holdsworth House for over 50 years and each year we have to keep finding new ways to put the hotel and Calderdale on the map.
“The success of Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley has done that tremendously in recent times.”
Head Chef Martin Helmsley, who was previously at five star hotel The Grand in York and has recently developed the new summer menu, said: “Food plays such an important part of people’s visit so it’s important to deliver something new and fantastic each time then they’ll keep coming back to Halifax.
The winner is announced later this year.
