A Brighouse restaurant has been shortlisted in the English Italian Awards, following on from their win at the Brighouse Echo Business Awards earlier this year.

Prego Italian Café Bar and Restaurant, on Huddersfield Road, has been nominated for Best Team and Best Family Restaurant in the awards, which cover the whole of the north of England.

Vittorio Piliu, restaurant manager at Prego, said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for both these categories.

“We would like to thank all our customers for their support in voting for us, we have our fingers crossed.”

The English Italian Awards evening takes place on Sunday, October 4 at Manchester’s Palace Ballroom and will see restaurants battle it out in 16 different categories.

Prego was founded by Marino Bevilacqua, his son Sandro and daughter Lidia in 2000.

The Grade II listed mill was presented with the Princes Trust award for tasteful regeneration of the historical building.

Prego successfully operates alongside the Waterfront Lodge Hotel and caters for its 54 en-suite bedrooms, 90 seater restaurant, 100 seat function/meeting room.

The restaurant supports food and craft markets, festivals and other businesses in the local community.

Their Italian wall paintings have been temporarily replaced to display an exhibition of local artists in support of the Brighouse Arts Festival.

The business also supports two local charities, the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and BASH, a charity supporting homeless and vulnerable people in and around Brighouse.

Lidia also organises a group to clean and tidy the adjoining canal twice a year, then provides the volunteers with pasta as a thank you.
