A Halifax trader is moving shop after repeated break-ins and a recent town centre parking fiasco have threatened the future of the bridal business.
Owner of Westgate Bridal Studio Marie Muir is relocating to retail premises at West Vale after being burgled twice in just over one year and being affected by recent changes to town centre parking restrictions which are affecting business.
The burglaries have cost Marie thousands of pounds and she feels town centre traders are not properly protected.
Now, free parking in the town has resulted in workers parking cars in bays all day long; resulting in a low turnover of trade as shoppers struggle to park-up in town, says Marie.
“I’m relocating to feel more secure - it’s a massive worry; not knowing if you’re going to walk into a burgled shop - it makes you feel insecure. Theft of stock and criminal damage can determine a businesses future and the problem with town centre parking is the icing on the cake - it’s affecting lots of businesses.” she said.
Westgate Bridal Studio will stop trading from its Halifax town location from the close of business, today, and will be based at Westgate - next door to Andy Thornton, as of January 2015.
The bridal studio will continue to operate, in the interim period, on a mobile basis.
Calderdale Council said it is “determined” to end the recent spate of retail targeted break-ins and says it is working with its security and police to improve security and surveillance.
