Busy weekend for Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team

It has been a busy weekend for the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team.

As Storm Desmond wreaked havoc across northern England and Scotland, swiftwater rescue technicians from the team were mobilised to assist local emergency services with flooding in Cumbria.

And yesterday, the team received a request for urgent assistance from Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service, with the evacuation of a gentleman who had fallen and sustained a suspected broken leg at Bronte Falls, Haworth.

Once on-scene, the casualty was safely transferred a short distance back up the steep hillside to the waiting air ambulance, for onward journey to hospital.

The team stood down at 12:36 and returned to base to await the arrival back of the swiftwater rescue members in Calder Mobile 2 and 3 who were returning from assisting fellow mountain rescue teams and emergency services with the ongoing Cumbria floods.
