Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team help to rescue injured walker

The team were called out at around 5pm yesterday (Monday) to Denholme, Bradford, to help the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service rescue the walker.

The man had fallen on steep banking near Doe Park Reservoir. He ended up at the bottom of the slope and suffered an ankle injury during the fall.

A spokesperson for the CVSRT said: “He was initially treated by the responding ambulance crew who were joined by four members of the YAS Hazardous Area Response Team and several CVSRT members who were nearby.

“Working together, they secured the casualty on the slope, administered pain relief and treated his ankle injury.

“On arrival of the first CVSRT vehicles, the patient was secured by a simple rope belay, then packaged into a vacuum mattress and loaded onto the bell stretcher.

“Evacuation was then carried out by means of sledging the stretcher using a walking “V” up to the top of the slope and then carried to the land ambulance.”

The rescue took over two hours and involved 21 CVSRT and six Yorkshire Ambulance Service staff.
