Calderdale Council now assesses requests from residents about changes to its traffic and parking schemes under the Minor Traffic and Parking Improvement Schemes policy.

But after a recent review, the council’s Highways service said proposed changes to the policy could make the process quicker and more efficient.

It comes as the council is dealing with a backlog of around 300 requests from residents who have called for changes to existing parking and traffic schemes.

Coun Barry Collins, cabinet member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “The Highways service is dealing with nearly 200 historic requests from residents for changes to existing traffic and parking schemes, dating back to 2008, and a further 100 received since May 2014.

“We know how important it is for this process to be as streamlined as possible, which is why we’re considering spending more on this area, even though funding to the Council is rapidly being cut by central government.”

Requests lodged by residents about the issues have to be priorities by the council before they are dealt with, which makes the assessment process longer.

The council’s cabinet will discuss proposals to change the policy during a meeting on Monday, at Halifax Town Hall at 6pm.
