Calderdale folk should have no trouble shedding those extra Christmas calories after it was revealed they take part in more physical activity than anyone else in West Yorkshire.
Sport England’s Active People survey shows that a quarter of people in Calderdale do three sessions of physical activity a week – the top spot in West Yorkshire and second in Yorkshire and the Humber – and 38 per cent take part for at least 30 minutes once a week – the highest in West Yorkshire and third in the wider region.
While the Tour de Yorkshire inspired people to get out on their bikes, Calderdale Council’s Better Living Team are helping hundreds of local residents to lose weight through physical activity and healthy lifestyle courses.
It has free 12-week sessions available for those wanting to get more active in the New Year, learn more about food, have fun and make friends.
The council has also launched a Save pennies, lose pounds fitness membership campaign to encourage people to join a local council-run gym at a discounted rate.
