A 45-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering Sowerby mum-of-four Mahala Rhodes.

The 42-year-old died at her home in Rooley Heights after being stabbed in the chest by her on-off partner Malcolm Cromie.

At the end of a four-day trial this afternoon the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict on the murder charge and Judge Peter Benson adjourned sentence on Cromie until tomorrow.

Judge Benson thanked the jury for their careful consideration of the case and confirmed that Cromie would be receiving a life sentence for the murder.

But the judge said he would have to decide the minimum term that Cromie will have to serve behind bars before being considered for release by the Parole Board.
