Calderdale parking charges suspended following floods

Calderdale Council leader Tim Swift confirmed the freeze began on Sunday December 27, as soon as the flooding issues arose, and will remain suspended until further notice.

However, he added: “This means we do need people to be sensible, though, and not cause problems for the services, volunteers and residents trying to cope with the aftermath of the flooding.”

Calderdale Council has also confirmed there will be rapid financial support available for households and businesses affected by the floods.

For residents, Council Tax payments will be suspended for up to six months for homes that are severely affected and there will also be individual grants.

The Council is asking for financial assistance from the Government and further details will be made available as soon as possible.

For businesses, business rates will be suspended for up to six months and the Council is exploring a range of grants and loans to help get businesses up and running.

These schemes will be in addition to the grants being given by the Calderdale Community Foundation, which will be supporting personal hardship and community needs.

The Council has also said it is also concerned about the lack of available insurance for householders and businesses and will continue to raise this with the Government for an urgent solution.
