Calderdale remains on alert after night of heavy rain

River levels rose and 11 flood warnings, which means flooding is expected, were issued and flood sirens sounded in Walsden, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.

At the height of the deluge, many roads across the region were affected. Rochdale Road at Triangle was completely flooded, with vehicles struggling to get through.

Problems were also reported in Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Todmorden, Sowerby Bridge, Copley, Savile Park Moor, Brighouse and Bailiff Bridge.

Part of the M62 was closed through the night, while work got underway to clear surface water.

Rail services and the roads network was also affected. Trains between Leeds and Manchester are now up and running again and in the last half an hour it has been confirmed Sheffield to Manchester services, which had previously been cancelled are running again but may experience delays.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a assist with a number of incidents across the region.

In Todmorden, fire crews attended two properties which had been flooded.

Flood wardens, along with the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team, monitored river levels throughout the night.

This morning, many flood warnings have been lifted, but a flood alert remains in place the River Calder from Todmorden to Brighouse.
