Urgent calls have been made to improve safety near the railway line around Hipperholme following three tragic deaths in recent months.

Coun David Kirton (Con, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe) told a meeting of the Transport Committee at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority that he had contacted Network Rail to improve safety.

He told the meeting: “Clearly the fatalities have been under different circumstances, but I’m really concerned about the rail line as it passes through Lightcliffe Golf Club - there’s a public right of way crossing there, and that’s where the first gentleman lost his life.

“I’m waiting for further information from Network Rail, they’ve replied confirming they are looking into the situation.”

Coun Kirton has invited Network Rail representatives to visit the site.
