Car driving wrong way crashes during police pursuit in Leeds

Police are appealing for any witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Leeds on Saturday night.

Police were called to reports a burglary at commercial premises on Easterly Road, Leeds at 7.50pm and on arrival saw a number of people leaving the scene in a red coloured Ford Focus estate car.

A police pursuit began but was immediately stopped when the Focus started travelling on the other side of the carriageway, heading in the direction of the on-coming traffic. The Focus and a Volkswagen Polo were then in collision.

As a result of the collision a 54-year-old woman who was in the Polo was seriously injured. She was taken to the LGI hospital where her condition is described as critical but stable.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call police on 101.
