Casa Hotel boss in court for breaking enforcement notice

The owner of the Casa Hotel in Brighouse has appeared at Calderdale Magistrates court accused of breaching an enforcement notice issued by Calderdale Council.

Jack McDaid, of Yarborough Croft, Northowram, and his business Castlelite Limited, which he is managing director, are said to have breached the notice issued by the council’s planning inspectorate between January 15, 2010, to January 4, 2013, by not removing a marquee at the side of the restaurant on Elland Road.

The court heard that the Mr McDaid was given the instruction to remove the temporary structure together with all service connections, equipment and furnishings associated with it on January 19, 2009.

Mr McDaid, who pleaded not guilty and represented himself, said a planning appeal regarding the marquee was due to be heard in July and that it would be removed in January 2014 when work is due to start on a permanent building.

Mr McDaid will next appear at Calderdale Magistrates Court on July 19.
