Halifax’s Ravenscliffe High School has received £25,000 from a deceased advocate of Calderdale’s only special school.
Entrepreneur and Calderdale born and bred Harry Hamer, who died in 2011, was a Ravenscliffe supporter and school friend who left Ravenscliffe £85,000 in his will which was attributed to develop the school training kitchen and refurbish the sensory room.
The remaining £25,000 has been awarded to the school’s plan to build a sixth-form and community site at Spring Hall, Halifax.
Ravenscliffe headteacher Martin Moorman said: “Harry was a huge character with great generosity of spirit and personal integrity.
“The last time Harry supported the school was Sport Relief 2010 where he and fellow Rotarians acted as track marshals for our cycling event at Spring Hall. It therefore seems very apt that Harry’s legacy will help fund our new development at Spring Hall.”
