A RURAL community group in Calderdale has been given £500 in donations through the localgiving.com website.
Blackshaw Environmental Action Team signed up to the website and used their newsletter to ask its members to log on and donate cash – which was then matched by the Community Foundation for Calderdale.
Generous supporters donated £250 which was matched by the Community Foundation for Calderdale.
The £500 total cash will now be spent on growing food, planting trees and generating power to the community.
The team had taken use of a previous Calderdale Match Fund Challenge, but now a new challenge – backed by the Courier – is in the pipeline.
Groups must set up a page on the website localgiving.com by March 1 and any donations they attract there will be matched by the foundation.
A total of £375,000 has been made available to community foundations across England.
Rachel Julian, localgiving project officer for the foundation, said: “We’re so pleased that BEAT, along with 25 other community groups in Calderdale, benefited from the match fund.
“Localgiving.com is a very useful fund-raising tool, so we encourage all community groups to get in touch and see if they can also sign up for Localgiving.com.”
