Challenge over GCSE results is rejected

A legal challenge to have GCSE English papers remarked after last year’s exam fiasco.

Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School and Halifax High had joined a group of schools and individuals challenging the results of exams in June 2012 that were marked more harshly than the same exams in January 2012.

This resulted in many pupils achieving lower grades than if they had sat the exam in January.

As part of the High Court ruling Lord Justice Elias said it was “the structure of the qualification itself which is the source of such unfairness as has been demonstrated in this case, and not any unlawful action” by the Ofqual exam regulator or exam boards.
