We’re inviting you to put forward a brave, generous, courageous or thoughtful child aged 16 or under who has gone the extra mile and deserves recognition for the amazing things they have done.

Run by the Halifax Courier Group, the awards aim to give something back to those who have helped friends, family or neighbours; courageous children who have battled adversity or illness; and those miniature heroes who have quickly sprung to action in times of crisis.

Nominated children will be invited to a glittering awards ceremony at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, on December 20, 2014, where they will be presented with an award by Halifax’s very own Neil Hurst, before being treated to a matinee performance of the Christmas pantomime - Jack and the Beanstalk.

A spokesperson from the Victoria Theatre said: “It looks to be a fun, festive and inspiring event for all involved.”

If you know a young person who is a Champion Child, please write to tell us what makes them special.

Please include the child’s name, age, address and their parent or guardian’s contact number.

Mark nominations as ‘Champion Children 2014’ and email them to [email protected]. The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 7, 2014.

Meanwhile, preparations for the pantomime are well underway and production company Imagine Theatre work all year round to make sure the show will be a roaring success.

Steve Boden, managing director of Imagine Theatre said: “Plans for panto begin more than a year in advance of the first performance when we discuss suitable titles and run dates.

“We then think about the magical “wow” factors that we want to include in the show along with any particular cast members.

“The show is then written, scenery and costumes assembled and actors, musicians and technical staff recruited.

“There is never a quiet month for a panto company.”

A pantomime is not just for Christmas and you can get into the magic of the season by helping Jack find his magic beans this half term.

Hidden in shop windows across Halifax town centre are tins of Jack’s magic beans - visit Harvey’s cafe and gift department and The Chinese Buffet and Pizza Express in Broad Street Plaza to find them.

Find them all and you will be entered into a prize draw to win family tickets to Jack and the Beanstalk.
