Charting the rapid growth of Movember

Staff at Stoneywood Motors in Sowerby Bridge are in for a hair-raising experience this month in aid of Movember.

The annual charity event involves men growing moustaches to raise money for the prostate cancer charity and increase awareness of the illness.

Manager Lee Exley is one of 18 ‘mo bros’ who are downing their razors at the firm.

He said: “It’s for a good cause and it’s a morale-boosting excercise as well to help with team building. It’s also a good excuse for the lads to go without shaving for a bit.

“Almost everyone’s doing it - the three directors, myself and all the staff under me except one, who oddly enough already has a tash! We’ve all put in £10 so we’ve got a minimum of £180 but hopefully we’ll raise a lot more.”

But Lee, 31, from Halifax, is doubtful whether staff will become attached to their new look.

He added: “We might get attached to them but it’s our Christmas party when Movember finishes so they’ll probably all get shaved off by then.”

Receptionist Sam Wilson, who encouraged the men to go ‘au naturel’, said: “We do fundraising for ladies cancer charities as I lost my mum to cancer, but it’s nice to raise awareness of men’s cancer too. They’re a good bunch of lads and it’s a chance to have a bit of a laugh.”
