Calderdale Council is the toast of a Hebden Bridge pub after agreeing to list it as a community asset.
The community will now be given first chance to bid for the Fox and Goose, on Heptonstall Road, before anyone else can move in and buy the property for a different use.
A share offer will be launched on May 1 to raise money to buy the pub and turn it into West Yorkshire’s first co-operative pub.
Calder ward councillor Dave Young said: “It’s wonderful news that we have been able to get the community value of the Fox and Goose recognised.”
A public meeting will be held in the pub on Saturday, April 27, at 1pm to launch the share offer.
The Fox and Goose is only the second premises to be recognised by Calderdale Council under the new Assets of Community Value Regulations.
