Choir signs up little singers with big voices

Brighouse mum Sarah Wilkinson is setting up a new choir - with a difference.

For there will be no lower age limit for her choir for mums and babies. Sarah, a music teacher of Cedar Grove, Bailiff Bridge, is keen to inspire a love of singing across the generations.

The choir’s first session will be at Norwood Green Village Hall on Tuesday, January 28 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Sarah, who has an eight-month-old son Miles, is a member of Marsh Ladies Choir in Huddersfield but found she was unable to continue regular choral singing after becoming a mum.

“I love being part of a choir but it got harder to fit it in after I had Miles,” she said. “It made me think that there must be a lot of mums in my position who enjoy singing or would like to join a choir but have difficulty finding baby-sitters.

“The new choir will be fior mums and babies and will be fun and relaxed. No previous singing experience will be necessary - nor will an ability to read music.

“It is about singing for fun, boosting confidence and meeting other mums,” said 28-year-old Sarah.

Sarah met her husband Paul when they worked at Leeds College of Music and they both teach piano and singing.
