Firefighters were called to rescue a large cow from an underground tunnel after it became stuck today (Friday).

A technical rescue unit from Cleckheaton Fire Station, along with a specialist technical rescue officer, attended the scene at Saddleworth Road, Greetland, Halifax to free the cow from a tunnel approximately 25 metres long.

A vet had to sedate the cow before a strap was placed around its legs and slowly pulled to safety by a tractor.

The cow is now recovering in the care of its owner.
