College's joy at Buckingham Palace visit

Principal John Rees and DofE manager Dave Kitson were presented with a special plaque from the DofE charity at the event which acknowledged the college’s commitment to running the scheme.

Calderdale College has been delivering the DofE for more than six years and every year students at the college achieve bronze, silver and gold awards after volunteering, learning a skill, going on an expedition and, for gold, and taking part in a residential.

Mr Kitson said: “It was simply phenomenal to take part in the celebration and witness students from across the country collecting their gold awards. I feel honoured to have been invited to Buckingham Palace to receive a commemorative plaque to acknowledge and say thank you for our work with the charity during its diamond anniversary year.

“The DofE Award scheme builds essential employability skills which have enabled our students to secure interviews and jobs. We want to encourage all young people from the local area aged 14 to 24 years old to get involved.”
