Community heroes rewarded with Citizenship Awards
This year’s winners are community champion Cynthia Murray and Lisa Pearson and Abbie Cowie of the ‘Back to Netball’ Scheme.

Hide AdShe was chosen to received a Citizenship Award due to her work in the community and the support she gives to the town. She has been pro-active on the TIC’s behalf in many initiatives including the Beach Party on the Park, the 2014 Tour de France and is currently working on the Todmorden Book Festival planned for November 2018.
Lisa Pearson and Abbie Cowie have been awarded the Citizenship Award for their work setting up the ‘Bakc to Netball’ scheme.
Over 15 years ago, Lisa was part of establishing the Netball League in Todmorden, which runs at the Sports Centre every Tuesday evening. Since then she has organised the league, setting fixtures, collecting fees, supporting the referees and all of the other major tasks that go into keeping the league running smoothly.
Read: Young people organise fun day at Field LaneTo try and attract more women back into sports and to encourage new teams to join the Todmorden league, both Lisa and Abbie were asked to set up the ‘Back to Netball’ Scheme.

Hide AdThis scheme is run by Netball England and is designed to be a gentle introduction back into the game of netball for women who may not have played the game since school.
The duo have also developed after school netball sessions and a Walking Netball club in Todmorden.
