This award recognises and promotes charities and organisations serving to care and support some of our most admired assets in the community.

And the Chit Chat Group, based in Elland, does just that.

The voluntary group, aimed at over 50s, provides weekly social activities aimed at keeping people active, forming friendships and reducing isolation amongst older people.

Established in 2012, the group began with just two members. This has now grown to 66 over the last three years, demonstrating the importance of what the group does.

Activities are endless and range from arts and crafts, games, music, singing, dancing and cookery, as well as programmes aimed at dementia awareness.

And at the heart of the group’s success is the creativity, enthusiasm and the time of the volunteers who show a real care for the people in their community.

Win Theaker, of the group, said: “We’re absolutely delighted about winning the award.

“We are still growing, we work as a team and this award is for them all.”

Also nominated in this category were Hebden Bridge-based Verd De Gris and the Upper Valley Older Person’s Support Service.
