Community unites in fight against cancer

Families came together in Rastrick to help in the fight against cancer and help those undergoing treatment at a family fun day.

The event was held at Rastrick Bowling club with proceeds going to Macmillan Nurses and the Little Princess Trust.

One of the organisers, Lisa Rumble, who is originally from Liverpool but has moved to Rastrick, explained the reasons for putting on the event.

“Along with my cousin Laura we decided to put together the day as both our grandparents died of cancer.

“We also have our dear family member Kathy who had recently been diagnosed with the big C, she will conquer some chemotherapy soon and we want to do what we can to support her through her big journey.

“Lots of businesses and local people have supported us with prizes for the raffle and tombola.

“The event was great and everyone was happy with the turn out and the donations. We just want to say a big thank you for everyone who came and the donations that were made.”

Along with a variety of stalls there was fun activities for children. In total the day raised £927.

The family fun day was the first event organised by Lisa and she is set to hold a charity evening in Liverpool, where she is originally from, where she will be shaving her hair off for the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
