Cookery school has the recipe for success

A leading independent culinary school has brought their award-winning cookery training to Dean Clough Mills in Halifax.

Ashburton Cookery School, based in Devon, is running a certificate in professional cookery and diploma level courses in general culinary skills and patisserie skills.

“Over the years we have been asked many times if we would open another training centre outside of Devon”, said the school’s founder Stella West-Harling.

“We are really excited to be bringing our courses to Dean Clough, which has fantastic kitchen facilities and is in a great location for so many people in the Leeds and Manchester areas.

Ashburton’s Chefs Academy courses are intensive, highly practical chef training programmes designed to fast-track the careers of aspiring chefs.

“Our chefs academy courses are so popular because they allow amateur cooks to learn the fundamentals of professional cookery in a short amount of time and prepare them for a career in a really exciting industry, where there are great employment opportunities both in the UK and abroad”, said chef director, Darrin Hosegrove.

Ashburton also plan to offer some of their 40 leisure cookery courses at the new Halifax campus, which are aimed at home cooks and cover a range of cuisines and skill levels.

Dean Clough’s managing director, Jeremy Hall, said: “Ashburton Cookery School has an excellent reputation, so I’m delighted that Dean Clough has been chosen as a location for its new North of England base.

“Up until recently we had our own cookery school on site, so it’s great that Ashburton has seen the potential of the facilities here. It’s very good news for us, for Halifax, and also for anyone interested in learning or perfecting their culinary skills.”

Ashburton’s chefs academy was set-up in 2011 and those on the course can be expected to be taken seriously for entry-level chef positions in professional kitchens.
