Could Shibden Mill Inn be Yorkshire’s favourite pub?

ONE of Calderdale’s best-loved pubs is in the running to be Yorkshire’s favourite.

The Shibden Mill Inn, Shibden, has been included alongside 11 other establishments.

General manager Glen Pearson has been running the pub for 13 years.

He said: “It’s absolutley fantastic news.

“The wonderful thing about it is that people have to go online and explain why they are voting for us.

“It shows a loyal clientele and also that we are making a lasting impression on people.”

The competition, set up by tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire, asked pubgoers to recommend their favourite place for a pint in Yorkshire.

The 12 finalists are:

The Adelphi, Leeds; The Angel Inn, Hetton; near Skipton: The Anvil Inn, Sawdon, near Scarborough; the Black Swan Inn, York; The Black Swan, Driffield; Durham Ox, York; Farmers Arms, Upper Swaledale; George and Dragon, Hudswell, near Richmond; The Milestone, Sheffield; One-Eyed Rat, Ripon; Shibden Mill Inn; Shoulder of Mutton, Harrogate.

It’s not the first time the Shibden Mill Inn has been in the running for a gong.

It picked up several awards and another AA rosette in the last eight months.

“We were voted UK Sunday Lunch Pub of the Year and UK Food Pub of the Year by industry magazine The Publican,” said Mr Pearson.

“I have a fantastic head chef, managers and hard-working staff who all try to aim very high quality in everything we do.”
