Calderdale Council’s planning committee has back proposals to build 14 new homes at Southfield, Stafford Road, Halifax.

The project includes plans to convert Southfield Hall into four homes, the construction of five townhouses and two detached garages.

The developers were given the go-ahead to demolish the Southfield nurse’s house and five existing houses on the site.

Objections to the project were raised by a number of residents who were concerned that some of the proposed balconies on the property would allow people to look directly into their bedrooms.

Coun Andrew Tagg (Con, Skircoat) spoke at the meeting on behalf of the some the objectors.

He said: “Most objections don’t criticise the porject in principle, but they do object to the balconies.”

The plans were granted with the condition that the developer Century Homes Ltd would remove one of the balconies and install obscured glass on a second.

A representative from Century Homes said the company will agree to the revised conditions laid out by the planning committee.
