Terry Logan and Emma Mortimer, both of Hebden Bridge, were married at Todmorden Unitarian Church on Saturday, August 8.
Terry is a singer with the well-known local group, the Jam Factory, who played live at the wedding and at the reception in Todmorden Town Hall.
Emma works as a charitable fund-raiser, and the couple have travelled extensively together to numerous parts of the globe. The wedding was a beautiful and uplifting event and all present were blessed with a glorious sunny day.
The couple were the first two women to be fully legally married in any church in Calderdale. Todmorden Unitarian Church is the only church in the valley registered for same-sex weddings.
This year the church has hosted several marriages, including two same-sex, and have twice as many weddings already booked for next year.
Phil Parkinson, the Minister who has conducted many of the church’s weddings, said: “For me, it is an absolute honour being able to marry people, and provide a spiritual ceremony for couples who may not normally go to church.
“Myself and the Management Committee of the Todmorden Unitarian Church are particularly proud to provide, at last, such a majestic space in which all couples, including same-sex, can be married”.
