Courier video first at Calderdale Council meeting

It was a historic night for the Halifax Courier as for the first time our cameras were rolling at a Calderdale Council cabinet meeting.

Halifax Courier editor, John Kenealy, said: “We welcome the new openness at the council. We would like to hear from viewers what they think and if they would like us to do more filming at council meetings.”

The top items discussed were the controversial evening parking charges and the Hipperholme crossroads scheme.

The new look Conservative Cabinet, chaired by Coun Stephen Baines, voted to scrap the parking charges in ten district car parks, as well as evening charges in the town centre.

Members also decided to revoke the Hipperholme crossroads scheme. Other options for the key road junction - one of Calderdale’s busiest - will now be considered.
