A 35-year-old Halifax man has denied a charge of attempting to rape a young girl and will stand trial in January next year.

James Fielding, of Keswick Close, Siddal, was charged with the offence in July.

Today (Tuesday) he appeared before a judge at Bradford Crown Court via a video link to HMP Hull where he is currently remanded in custody.

During the brief plea and trial preparation hearing before the Recorder of Bradford Judge Jonathan Rose the defendant pleaded not guilty to the attempt rape allegation which is said to have been committed against a girl under 16.

After discussion about the case with prosecution and defence counsel Judge Rose confirmed that the trial was fixed to start on January 20 next year.

Judge Rose remanded Fielding back into custody until his trial.
