Crackdown on tenancy fraud in Calderdale

Tenancy fraudsters across Calderdale are being targeted in a new campaign supported by Pennine and Chevin Housing Associations, members of the Together Housing Group.

Neighbourhood Teams from both housing associations are carrying out door-knocking exercises to raise awareness of potential housing fraud.

Tenants who may be sub-letting their properties are being especially targeted. Tenants who may have obtained their tenancies dishonestly, or by succession when they were not entitled are also being targeted.

Glenn Plews, ASB and Interventions Co-ordinator, said: “The vast majority of our tenants get their homes honestly, however there are a very small number of tenants who get tenancies without revealing their true circumstances. We also come across a small number of cases where tenants ‘lease’ or allow others to have their tenancy for profit.

“If you suspect someone of unlawfully sub-letting, please call us on 0300 555 5561. Your report will be treated in the strictest confidence and can be given anonymously.”

The campaign involves councils and housing associations from across the region joining forces to highlight the problem of tenancy fraud and promoting a hotline number to report any possible fraud.
