Crews tackle massive mill fire in Huddersfield overnight

FIRE crews from across the area tackled a large fire at a mill in Huddersfield last night.

At its peak about 50 firefighters battled the blaze at a derelict mill on Clough Road, Slaithwaite from about 10pm on Friday night.

The fire broke out in the top two floors of the four-storey building.

Six crews - including from Elland, Brighouse and Odsal - were sent to the scene along with two aerial appliances and supporting units.

Residents living next to the mill were evacuated to a nearby shed and pub by police.

Crews were still damping down on Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
