Arrests, fines and prison time as police hold a day of action

Two men were arrested,four motorists received speeding tickets and four vehicles were seized as police carried out a day of action in the upper Calder Valley.

Officers from the Valley North Neighbourhood Policing Team joined colleagues from HM Revenue & Customs, the Vehicle Operator Service Agency (VOSA) and Calderdale Council’s licencing department for the day of action, organised by PC Ryan Stockton.

During the event, vehicles, including taxis, were stopped on Burnley and Halifax Road in Todmorden.

As a result of these checks. a 34-year-old man was arrested for failing to pay court fines of nearly £1,500 and was sent to prison for 24 days, whilst a 31-year-old man was arrested for an assault committed in South Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, four motorists received tickets for speeding, four vehicles were given notices or tickets forcing them to fix vehicle defects and three vehicles were seized by HMRC after being found running on red diesel.

PCSO Dave Evans and PCSO Matt Devlin hosted a stall on Todmorden Market to provide advice on crime and crime prevention.

PC Stockton said: “Whether it was for crime prevention, Anti- Social Behaviour or just a chat, they were on call to listen to and support member of the community.”
