Veicles were damaged and a Nissan Terrano was set alight on Union Street South, Halifax, last night.

Firefighters were called at 9.47 pm - around the time crowds of people were leaving the Shay after the FC Halifax Town v Alfreton match.

Watch commander Mark Whitaker said the vehicle was destroyed having been deliberately ignited - but the consequences could have been worse.

Nearby parked vehicles had to be moved and a building doused with water as firefighters worked to stop the blaze spreading.

“A series of cars had been damaged, with some having their windows smashed,” said Commander Whitaker.

The Nissan was vandalised prior to it being set alight.

Police also attended the scene.
