Attacker flees into Halifax after attacking train guard who intervened in domestic dispute

British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened on Saturday, September 27, on board the 11pm Leeds to Huddersfield service, prior to its arrival into Halifax.

PC Ruth Miller said: “The victim, a 47-year-old male train guard from Huddersfield, was alerted to a domestic dispute between a man and a woman on the train and attempted to intervene to calm the situation down.

“The man headbutted the guard, and then punched him a number of times.

“The man then began to kick the train doors in an attempt to open them. When the train arrived into Halifax the man fled prior to the arrival of officers.

The guard wasn’t badly injured, but suffered pain in his jaw and face, and reddening to his nose.

PC Miller added: “The member of rail staff assaulted was simply doing his job and attempting to assist a vulnerable passenger

“Violent behaviour such as this is something we take very seriously, and we are pursuing a number of enquiries in relation to this case.
