Jason Chapman, aged 23, of Tonbridge Close, Buttershaw, and Stephen Askey, aged 26 of Firethorn Close, Girlington, were sentenced to ten years and nine months and nine years respectively at Bradford Crown Court.

The assault happened last November while Chapman and Askey were at a party in the Girlington area of Bradford with their victim, a 56-year-old man from the city, when a disagreement occurred.

Such was the ferocity of the attack, the victim suffered ten broken ribs and a fractured eye socket, as well as a fracture to a bone in his neck, which caused him to suffer breathing difficulties.

Chapman was also given one year and three months extended licence, while Askey received three years extended licence.

Askey had pleaded guilty to the charge while Chapman initially pleaded not guilty, only to change his plea as the trial progressed.

Detective Inspector Neil Benstead, of Bradford District CID, said: “This was a serious assault which caused multiple injuries and left the victim with a foot mark on his face.

“We welcome the lengthy prison sentences and hope they will serve as a warning to anyone involving themselves in serious assaults, and in some way comfort the victim.”
